We  are planning vacation time, soon, the week of July 4th/
My parents are coming from California,  to spend some time here in Oregon, enjoying the area.
My friends, Sister is coming to visit her, and they are just going to play it by ear, and do what ever comes along.
We share a boat together, and have been getting it cleaned up for some fun fishing time. We decided this year, to sale the boat after this summer, or maybe before, after 5 years. I'm kind of sad to see it go, after all it's paid for, why sell it now??

A little of this 'n that

    Hello Friends & Family,

Just a little update,  I been out of town , and have had family visiting.

Well as most of you know, I have been in a foot cast for most of the summer, had surgery for a broken Aculies Heal. Well I'm happy inform you that the cast is off.
I still need to be in a removable boot cast for the next month.

I will be returning to work again at the end of the summer, and looking forward to going back to the nail business.

We have had a wonderful summer here in Bend, Oregon- the weather has been wonderful.
The fire's have been few, and not in my backyard, always a concern, when you live in the country and lots dry latter fuel around.
I have enjoyed the outdoors some, going out in the boat, and taking a trip to the Oregon coast to ride the jet boats up the Rogue River at Gold Beach. We took a 104 miles round trip, and saw lots of wildlife, including two black bears.
We where able to get a video and pictures of them. What a treat that was, and best of all , our grandson , Gage, now 15 1/2 was with us. We stayed right on the bay at the mouth of the Pacific ocean. Had some wonderful food while their, too.

Our grandson has his drivers permit and we let him drive some of the way home, he did a great job, and Papa, loved that he got to sit back and watch the scenary for a change.

We atteded the annual gala of my weight loss surgery support group last Friday evening.
A Lula was the theme this year, and a relaxing and joyful time was had by all that attended.

We took our grandson to the airport on Tuesday, Aug 8, to return home for football camp.
So glad it was on then, after what has taken place today, with the terriorists threats..
What a pain that would have been for him, to go though, with security.

Well I hope all is well with you, keep coming back. Leave me a comment, picture, or blog to view.
    Take care, Sharon

Memories, of years past, what are some of yours?

For those of us who grew up in the rural rust belt, this is right on............Here is a couple of mine!

playing parade in the street, with the kids from the neighborhood, and I always wanted to be the Baton girl, or the Drum Major.. LOL, remember that one sissy?

Going to Pismo Beach to see the fireworks, with all the family and friends, then after waiting for it to get dark, it would be fogged in so bad we  could barely see the firedworks, but we didn't care, we came to have fun and be with family..

Selling Lemonade or Kool Aid, for a penny a glass, then when my kids got old enough, they sold a glass for 10 cents. Now my grandkids, or my friends kids, get 25, or more.. wow, the price of imflation, even hits the Lemonade stand..

Always having Watermelon on July4th, and then having a seen spiting contest. I usually won.. Hew Hew.

So come on send me your memory of July 4th, or some other.

Always knew I came here before dirt and this just proved it!

"Hey Dad," one of my kids asked the other day, "What was your favorite fast food when you were growing up?"

"We didn't have fast food when I was growing up," I informed him. "All the food was slow."

"C'mon, seriously. Where did you eat?"

"It was a place called 'at home,'" I explained. "Grandma cooked every day and when Grandpa got home from work, we sat down together at the dining room table, and if I didn't like what she put on my plate I was allowed to sit there until I did like it."

By this time, the kid was laughing so hard I was afraid he was going to suffer serious internal damage, so I didn't tell him the part about how I had to have permission to leave the table. But here are some other things I would have told him about my childhood if I figured his system could have handled it:

Some parents NEVER owned their own house, wore Levis , set foot on a golf course, traveled out of the country or had a credit card. In their later years they had something called a revolving charge card. The card was good only at Sears Roebuck. Or maybe it was Sears AND Roebuck. Either way, there is no Roebuck anymore. Maybe he died.

My parents never drove me to soccer practice. This was mostly because we never had heard of soccer. I had a bicycle that weighed probably 50 pounds, and only had one speed, (slow). We didn't have a television in our house until I was 11, but my grandparents had one before that. It was, of course, black and white, but they bought a piece of colored plastic to cover the screen. The top third was blue, like the sky, and the bottom third was green, like grass. The middle third was red. It was perfect for programs that had scenes of fire trucks riding across someone's lawn on a sunny day. Some people had a lens taped to the front of the TV to make the picture look larger.

I was 13 before I tasted my first pizza, it was called "pizza pie." When I bit into it, I burned the roof of my mouth and the cheese slid off, swung down, plastered itself against my chin and burned that too. It's still the best pizza I ever had.

We didn't have a car until I was 15. Before that, the only car in our family was my grandfather's Ford. He called it a "machine."

I never had a telephone in my room. The only phone in the house was in the living room and it was on a party line. Before you could dial, you had to listen and make sure some people you didn't know weren't already using the line.

Pizzas were not delivered to our home. But milk was.

All newspapers were delivered by boys and all boys delivered newspapers. I delivered a newspaper, six days a week. It cost 7 cents a paper, of which I got to keep 2 cents. I had to get up at 4 AM every morning. On Saturday, I had to collect the 42 cents from my customers. My favorite customers were the ones

who gave me 50 cents and told me to keep the change. My least favorite customers were the ones who seemed to never be home on collection day.

Movie stars kissed with their mouths shut. At least, they did in the movies. Touching someone else's tongue with yours was called French kissing and they didn't do that in movies. I don't know what they did in French movies. French movies were dirty and we weren't allowed to see them.

If you grew up in a generation before there was fast food, you may want to share some of these memories with your children or grandchildren. Just don't blame me if they bust a gut laughing.

Growing up isn't what it used to be, is it?

    MEMORIES from a friend:

My Dad is cleaning out my grandmother's house (she died in December) and he brought me an old Royal Crown Cola bottle. In the bottle top was a stopper with a bunch of holes in it. I knew immediately what it was, but my daughter had no idea. She thought they had tried to make it a salt shaker or something. I knew it as the bottle that sat on the end of the ironing board to "sprinkle" clothes with because we didn't have steam irons. Man, I am old.

    How many do you remember?

Head lights dimmer switches on the floor.
    Ignition switches on the dashboard.
Heaters mounted on the inside of the fire wall.
    Real ice boxes.
Pant leg clips for bicycles without chain guards.

Soldering irons you heat on a gas burner.
Using hand signals for cars without turn signals.

Older Than Dirt Quiz: Count all the ones that you remember not the ones you were told about. Ratings at the bottom.

    1. Blackjack chewing gum
    2. Wax Coke-shaped bottles with colored sugar water
    3. Candy cigarettes
    4. Soda pop machines that dispensed glass bottles
    5. Coffee shops or diners with tableside juke boxes
    6. Home milk delivery in glass bottles with cardboard stoppers
    7. Party lines
    8. Newsreels before the movie
    9. P.F. Flyers
    10. Butch wax
    11. Telephone numbers with a word prefix (OLive-6933)
    12. Peashooters
    13. Howdy Doody
    14. 45 RPM records
    15. S&H Green Stamps
    16 Hi-fi's
    17. Metal ice trays with lever
    18. Mimeograph paper
    19 Blue flashbulb
    20. Packards
    21. Roller skate keys
    22. Cork popguns
    23. Drive-ins
    24. Studebakers
    25. Wash tub wringers

If you remembered 0-5 = You're still young
If you remembered 6-10 = You are getting older
If you remembered 11-15 = Don't tell your age,
If you remembered 16-25 = You're older than dirt!

I might be older than dirt but those memories are the best part of my life.

Don't forget to pass this along!!
Especially to all your really OLD friends....

    and countless little problems
    To vex and worry you,

    Book Update: MSN Messenger changes
If you're on the Windows Live Messenger beta, you already know this, but MSN Messenger is going through an exciting change. This means that many of the examples we have in the book (showing screen shots of MSN Messenger 7.5, particularly in Chapter 9, "Extending Your Spaces Experience,") won't match what you see on the screen if you're using the Windows Live Messenger beta. (The beta is really cool, btw, and will enable you to take full advantage of many of the newest features of MSN Spaces; it iincludes shared folders, access to Windows Live Search, and more). See the bottom of this post for a quick shot of the beta as it looks now.

[Also, a note from the news: This article from BetaNews says MSN Messenger is the most popular IM client used world-wide. That's terrific! I thought this was a fascinating article because it gives us a sense of how different countries are using IM right now and which applications they use most. Enjoy! -kathy]

Safe Helmets for our milatary- What about the Marines?

to read all the I was watching CNN news  with Anderson Cooper the other evening, and learned about the following subject
Saftey Helmets for our milatary, the army has them, but the Marines don't have them, and they are on the front lines. So whats up with that!  According to the news show, which spent time interviewing, CHAR, THE SINGER AND ACTRESS, she is spear heading and backing , this program, to get more helmets out to the our guys.
What I understand is the following, the soldiers are issued a helmet,  regulation type, which gives them some protection, but when they are hit by a blast like IUDS, the blast causes their helmets to hit their heads hard enough to cause brain damage sometimes.. a simple addition of three added pads at a cost of only $71 each, to save a life, can be added to help prevent this. The news said that some helmets have been issued to the army, but not the Navy or Marines. So whats up with that?
I have learned at my experinced life lessons, that if there is something that one can do, then we should do it.
Why not write our local representives. Send a check to help save a life of one solider, in the name of a fallen one.
Please go to the following web site and learn more on this topic

Two ARMY SOLIDERS , die in Iraq

This week our local news media, has been busy covering the story of the two ARMY soliders that got killed in Iraq. One of the soliders, was from a small town, Madras, Oregon, about 30 miles from our town of Bend, Oregon.
The story , as all the stories about war, feels our hearts with sadness. My  husband was a Marine in the Korean War, and he tells me , ONCE A MARINE ALWAYS A MARINE!

The name of the Solider that was so brutally killed by the Iraqies, was PFC-THOMAS TUCKER.  His family was so gracious in giving an interview to the press this week.. it can be seen on our local TV station, at the following web site. www.KTVZ.COM

Our heartfelt wishes go out to his family and friends.
As  my husband would say, Semper Fi,  God Bless,

As Madras residents prepared for Friday night's candlelight vigil in honor of slain Army Pfc. Thomas Tucker, military officials announced plans for the return of Tucker's body to Madras next Monday and a July 1 "community memorial service" in Redmond.

Tucker's body will be flown from Dover Air Force Base, Del., to Portland on Monday and driven to Madras, said Kay Fristad, Oregon National Guard spokeswoman in Salem.

The memorial service will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 1, at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds Expo Center in Redmond, Fristad said, adding that the event will be open to the public. Private internment will follow at the Mt. Jefferson Memorial Park Cemetery in Madras.

Gov. Ted Kulongoski has ordered that all flags at public institutions be flown at half-staff on Monday in memory of Tucker, one of two soldiers captured by Iraqi insurgents a week ago and killed in what an Iraqi government official called "barbaric" fashion.

"Private First Class Tucker was a son of Oregon and a true American hero," Kulongoski said. "We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and thank the town of Madras for wrapping their arms around them."

"Oregonians are proud to have had Private First Class Tucker as a member of our community and we'll hold him in our memories," the governor added. "His sacrifice is a testament to his honor and courage, and his bravery on the battlefield will not be forgotten."

A group with ties to the Al-Qaeda terror group claimed responsibility for the killings, and military officials said one or both men were beheaded and tortured, though some reports indicate some of that treatment may have occurred after they were dead.

On Friday, ABC news quoted a source who said some of the insurgents involved with the deaths of Tucker and Pfc. Kristian Menchaca had been arrested.

We so enjoyed our home here in Bend, Oregon, but we miss our home we had in Colorado, where we lived until 5 years ago.. Health issues from the High Altidude forced us to move to lower ground. It was a good thing, even though at the time we didn't think so, we so love Colorado.  We have two children and 3 grandchildren living there.  They love it there also.. So we get to go see them about once a year....
We also have two other children and 2 grandchildren in California, along with many other family members from my side of the famiy still there.  So as you can see we are almost half way between them both.

I have two brothers living in Oregon with their families, that we enjoying getting together and sharing our livies with. I also have one brother living in California in the National Guard, and one sister living there too, she is wondreful sister, that works as a special care giver for the elderly. My parnets also live there, and enjoy retirerment. They have lived in  the same place for over 40 years. I have one sister that lives in Montana, a real fun town to visit on 4th of July, small town USA.
When we moved here our best friends of over twenty years moved here with us, they have moved with us three times now, now that is a good friend. We spend most of our free time doing fun things with them,,just ask them to tell you a story or two.. LOL.
